The ferry from Singapore to Batam is one of the shortest international crossings in the world — just 45 minutes on the water. But with three departure terminals in Singapore, multiple ferry operators, and a handful of arrival ports in Batam, first-timers often find it more confusing than it needs to be.

This guide breaks it all down so you know exactly what to book, where to go, and what to expect.

Which Terminal Do You Depart From in Singapore?

There are two ferry terminals in Singapore that serve Batam routes:

HarbourFront Ferry Terminal (HFT) Located next to VivoCity mall and HarbourFront MRT station, this is the most popular and convenient terminal for most Singaporeans. It serves Batam Centre and Sekupang in Batam.

Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal Located in the east of Singapore, near Bedok. Serves Nongsapura and Waterfront City (Batam) — both on the eastern side of Batam island. More convenient if you are staying in resorts on that side.

Which Arrival Port in Batam?

Batam Centre Ferry Terminal The main arrival hub — closest to the city centre, shopping malls (BCS, Nagoya Hill), and most mid-range hotels. Best for first-timers.

Harbour Bay Ferry Terminal Closest terminal to Nagoya area and many popular hotels. Convenient for visitors planning to stay near Nagoya Hill, Harbour Bay, or the main nightlife and dining spots. Good choice for travelers who want quick access to the city.

Sekupang Ferry Terminal On the western side of Batam. Less crowded than Batam Centre, but you’ll need transport to reach most hotels. Mainly used for day trips.

Gold Coast Ferry Terminal Located in the Bengkong area. Convenient for visitors heading to resorts, beach clubs, and attractions around the east side of Batam. Best for travelers planning a relaxing stay away from the busy city center.

Ferry Operators: Which One Should You Book?

Several operators run the Singapore–Batam route. The main ones are:

BatamFast One of the most popular operators on the HarbourFront–Batam Centre route. Runs frequently throughout the day with modern vessels. Generally reliable and affordable.

Majestic Fast Ferry Operates the HarbourFront–Batam Centre and HarbourFront–Sekupang routes. Comfortable boats, good punctuality record.

Sindo Ferry Serves multiple routes including Tanah Merah–Batam Centre. Good option if you are staying on the city centre of Batam.

Tip: All operators are similarly priced at around SGD 70–80 round trip per person. The more important decision is which route (terminal to terminal) suits your hotel location — not which operator.

How Much Do Tickets Cost?

Route One Way Round Trip
HarbourFront → Batam Centre SGD 38-45 SGD 70-80
HarbourFront → Sekupang SGD 38-45 SGD 70-80
Tanah Merah → Nongsapura SGD 38-45 SGD 70-80

Prices may vary slightly based on promotional offers. Children aged 2–12 are prices are generally the same as adult fares, as the company’s published fare rules do not explicitly list a separate, reduced rate for children.

When Are Ferries Available?

Most routes operate from around 7:00am to 9:00pm, with first and last sailings varying slightly by operator and terminal. Ferries typically depart every 30–60 minutes during peak hours and less frequently in the early morning and evening.

Peak periods to be aware of:

How to Book

You can book directly on the operator’s website or through comparison portals like Easybook or 12Go Asia. Most operators allow booking up to 30 days in advance.

Tip: Always book the return journey at the same time as your outward trip, especially for weekend travel. Return sailings on Sunday evenings sell out quickly.

If you are booking through Primora Escape Co., we handle all ferry arrangements for you — you just show up at the terminal with your passport.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Turning up without a booking on a Friday evening. Ferries fill up. Always pre-book.

Booking the wrong terminal. Match your departure terminal to your hotel location in Batam. Batam Centre is the safest default if you are unsure.

Forgetting your passport. You cannot board without it. Unlike day trips within Singapore, this is an international crossing.

Cutting it too close. Ferry check-in closes 15–20 minutes before departure. Miss it and you forfeit your ticket.
