A Batam weekend trip from Singapore is one of the most efficient mini-escapes in the region. Two days and one night is the sweet spot — long enough to properly relax and explore, short enough that it barely dents a weekend. Here is how to do it well.

Before You Go

Book in advance. Ferry tickets on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons sell out, especially during Singapore school holidays. Book your ferry at least a week ahead. Your hotel should also be booked early if you are travelling on a peak weekend.

Documents. Bring your passport — this is an international crossing. Singaporean and Malaysian passport holders receive a free Visa on Arrival in Indonesia. No additional paperwork needed.

What to pack. Light clothing, sunscreen, swimwear, and one smart-casual outfit for dinner. Batam is warm year-round.

Day 1 — Arrival and Settle In

Morning / Early Afternoon: Ferry from Singapore

Recommended ferry: HarbourFront Ferry Terminal → Batam Centre. Aim for the 9:00am or 10:00am sailing to give yourself a full day.

Tip: If you are staying at a resort in Nongsa or Waterfront City, your hotel transfer can be arranged to pick you up at the terminal.

Late Morning: Check In and Freshen Up

Most mid-range and resort hotels in Batam will accommodate an early check-in if arranged in advance. After the ferry crossing, dropping your bags and freshening up before lunch is a good start.

If early check-in is not available, leave your bags with the concierge and head straight to lunch.

Afternoon: Lunch and Explore

Lunch: Head to one of the waterfront seafood areas near Batam Centre or Harbour Bay. Order simply — chilli crab, steamed tiger prawns, grilled fish, and iced drinks. Prices will remind you very quickly why you made the trip.

Afternoon options:

If you want to relax: Return to your resort, use the pool, and do nothing in particular. This is a perfectly valid use of a Saturday afternoon.

If you want to explore: Drive to the Barelang Bridge (about 30–40 minutes from Batam Centre). The route offers sea views and a few spots to stop for fresh coconut or light snacks. The bridges themselves are a scenic landmark worth seeing once.

If you want to shop: The Nagoya Hill area has the best concentration of shops. Electronics, clothing, local goods, and souvenirs are all available at prices that make Singapore feel expensive by comparison.

Evening: Dinner and Wind Down

Dinner: Batam’s evening seafood scene is excellent. The waterfront areas around Harbour Bay and Batam Centre are lively on Saturday evenings with open-air restaurants doing full tank-to-table service.

After dinner: Take a walk along the waterfront or back to your hotel. The pace is slower than Singapore, which is largely the point.

Day 2 — Activities and Return

Morning: Chosen Activity

Option A — Golf If your trip is golf-focused, tee off early. Most courses in Batam can be booked for an 8am or 9am round. By 1pm you will be done, showered, and ready for lunch before your return ferry.

Option B — Beach and Water Sports Head to Nongsa or Ocarina Beach for a morning of jet skiing, banana boat, or simply swimming and lounging. Both locations have easy equipment rental and a relaxed atmosphere.

Option C — Spa Morning Several standalone spas and hotel wellness centres in Batam offer excellent treatment packages at genuinely affordable prices. A two-hour package of massage and body scrub is a good way to spend a Sunday morning before the ferry home.

Late Morning: Check Out and Lunch

Check out of your hotel by 11am–12pm (most hotels). Leave your bags with the concierge if your ferry is in the afternoon.

Final lunch: Keep it simple and local. A warung near the city centre with nasi goreng, mie goreng, or nasi Padang is a good last meal.

Afternoon: Return Ferry

Recommended return: 2:00pm or 3:00pm sailing from Batam Centre → HarbourFront. This avoids the Sunday evening rush, which gets heavy from 4pm onwards.

Estimated Costs (Per Person)

Item Approx. Cost
Return ferry (HarbourFront ↔ Batam Centre) SGD 70–80
Mid-range hotel (1 night) SGD 60–100
Meals (2 days, seafood + local food) SGD 40–70
Activities (golf, water sports, or spa) SGD 40–100
Transport within Batam (Grab/taxi) SGD 20–30
Total SGD 230–380

For a two-night trip in Singapore, the same budget would get you noticeably less.
